Dynamo Kiev 1 - 3 Manchester City
All I can say is that Pellegrini is a reasonable risk taker !!
How else can we explain this ?
Last week he played a weaker team against Chelsea in the FA Cup and lost.He told everyone he knew what he was doing but no,we wanted to have his neck on a platter (whether gold or silver,it didn't matter).
Today, the Manchester City manager played his full squad and luckily vindicated himself from last week's FA Cup defeat.
Here are some stats from today's Champions League game as it happened ;
- Manchester City have kept just four clean sheets in 35 Champions League games and none in the last nine. Leaky.
- Raheem Sterling has had a hand in five goals in his last four Champions League games (three goals, two assists)
- Sergio Aguero has scored six goals from his last 11 shots on target in the Champions League.
- None of Manchester City’s 34 Champions League games have ended goalless.
- Yaya Toure has finally ended a run of 730 minutes without a Champions League goal
- David Silva has scored in consecutive Champions League appearances for the first time
Meanwhile the coach is impressed with City's improvement.He was delighted with their display tonight and already has one eye on making waves in the last eight - though he warned the Dynamo tie is not over yet.
"We're very happy because it's a very good result. It's not finished, but I think, playing away with a two-goal difference is a good result,"
"We missed a lot of chances, we maybe had some doubt when it was 2-1 but we finally scored a third goal.
"I think we pressed very well, we recovered the ball most of the time and we had at least three more chances in the first half when we pressed high.
"You never think it's finished but of course to have a third goal gives you a bit more confidence.
"It's important to improve every year in the Champions League. I said before the game that we were very unlucky to play against Barcelona in the last 16. Now, against Dynamo, I hope we can reach one stage more. When you get to the quarter-final, with the eight best teams in Europe, anything can happen."
