BREAKING NEWS : LUIS SUAREZ APPEAL REJECTED BY THE COURT OF ARBITRATION OF SPORTS (CAS)
COURT OF ARBITRATION FOR SPORT UPHOLDS SUAREZ BAN
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Luis Suarez's appeal, against the four month ban placed on him by Fifa (after the bite incident during the world cup), but have decided to allow him train with his new club, FC Barcelona.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport in a statement, said :
"The Panel found that the sanctions imposed on the player were generally proportionate to the offence committed.
However,it has considered that the stadium ban and the ban from 'any football-related activity' were excessive, given that such measures are not appropriate to sanction the offence committed by the player and would still have an impact on his activity after the end of the suspension."
The extent of Suarez's playing ban was said by CAS to be proportionate with the act committed, with Suarez having twice been caught biting opponents in the past.
Luis Suarez for the first time,is permitted to train with his Barcelona team mates since his €88 million transfer from Liverpool, but will sit out the first 11 games of Barcelona's season, while his nine-match international ban is still applicable.
However, he is permitted to play friendly matches, including Monday's Gamper Trophy clash with Club Leon at Camp Nou.
He is due to return to the playing field on October 26, one day after Barcelona are scheduled to play rivals Real Madrid in La Liga.
