Breaking news: Andy Murray is now World number 1!!!

Tennis star, Andy Murray, is officially the first Brit to be World number one, since John Newcombe in 1974- after beating John Isner 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 to win the Paris Masters on Sunday.

It was Murray's first Paris Masters title and the victory brought Murray his sixth ATP title of a very good 2016.

A 405 point gap now separates Murray from former world number one Novak Djokovic with the ATP World Tour Finals to begin next weekend in London.

In an interview with journalists Murray said,

“It feels different, certainly, to when I had won a Grand Slam or anything like that or the Olympics. It feels quite different. Maybe just because of the way it happened, really".

“When you play a final, you win or you lose. Whereas with the No.1 ranking, it’s not really like that. I could still potentially have had a chance to do it next week so it feels kind of different.”

Murray's rise to the top could be short-lived though, as previous number one Novak Djokovic could reclaim the top ranking he held for 122 weeks if he wins every match at the upcoming ATP World Tour Finals in London.
